About the Journal

The Journal of Divine Message Research is a peer-reviewed, Open Access academic journal dedicated exclusively to Common Message Studies: the rigorous study of the messages that the divine scriptures share. Working directly from primary sources — from the Qur’an and the classical tafsīr literature, through the Torah and the Bible, to the Dead Sea Scrolls — the journal asks what these texts convey in common, how that common message was received and interpreted, and what it means for our understanding of God’s messages.

The journal is the publishing arm of the Divine Message Research platform: a trusted, closed-circuit research environment in which scholars work with primary sources and turn their own findings into a submission-ready paper — safely, freely, and in hours rather than weeks.

Our Focus: Common Message Studies

We publish research on one subject only: the message that divine scriptures have in common. A submission belongs in this journal when its central argument rests on primary-source evidence of a shared message across two or more scriptural corpora, or of how that shared message was understood in the exegetical traditions built around them.

Areas within this focus include:

  • Shared themes of revelation: the oneness and attributes of God, prophethood and revelation, worship and prayer, moral and ethical teaching, and the messages the scriptures address to humanity in common.

  • The hereafter: the treatment of life after death, resurrection, judgment, paradise and hell across the scriptural corpora.

  • Shared narratives and figures: prophets, communities and events that appear in more than one scripture, read against one another in their original languages.

  • Reception and exegesis: how classical commentators of each tradition understood the shared message, and where their readings converge or diverge.

  • Text and transmission: the philological, manuscript and translation questions on which a sound comparison of a common message depends (Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic).

Studies confined to a single tradition, or to the sociology, history or politics of religion, that do not address a common message fall outside the journal’s scope.

From Your Notes to Publication

Authors who work in the Divine Message Research platform have a short, transparent route to publication:

  1. You research and record your findings in the closed-circuit platform, against primary sources.
  2. The “Make This a Scholarly Article” tool formats and prepares the paper from only your own notes. Nothing is invented and nothing is added from outside the circuit: no hallucinated content.
  3. The draft is shown to you for final review, and nothing moves forward until you confirm it.
  4. You submit it to the journal.
  5. Our editors and peer reviewers evaluate it and share their reviews with you.
  6. Once the work is ready, it is published.

Preparing and submitting a paper this way takes hours, not weeks. The entire process, from submission to publication, is free of charge: there are no submission fees and no article processing charges. Use of the platform is optional; manuscripts prepared in the usual way are equally welcome.

Submission Types

We accept the following formats for peer review, each within the focus of Common Message Studies:

  • Original Research Articles: full-length analytical essays advancing a novel thesis based on primary source analysis (6,000–10,000 words).

  • Critical Translations & Editions: annotated translations or critical examinations of previously untranslated or rarely digitized classical texts that bear on a common message.

  • Methodological Notes: shorter papers on methods for comparing scriptural texts and their commentaries, including grounded, citation-checked use of digital tools.

  • Book Reviews: critical evaluations of recent monographs in comparative scripture and common-message research.

Editorial Philosophy

The journal is fundamentally grounded in the text. We prioritize scholarship that builds its arguments directly upon primary sources rather than generalities, and we value precision, linguistic rigor and demonstrable evidence over abstract speculation. Our companion platform enforces the same discipline: every statement traces back to a source, and machine-generated content is kept out of the scholar’s paper.

We are also committed to accessibility in scholarship, and encourage research that makes complex Arabic, Hebrew or Greek exegesis accessible to a broader comparative audience.

Community and Collaboration

Common Message Studies is a shared undertaking. The journal brings together researchers who contribute to the understanding of God’s messages and want to be part of a community that does similar work, with opportunities to meet at academic events. Scholars may take part as authors, reviewers, editors or members of the committee.

The journal and platform also grow through the help of collaborators, among them EUSER, a research organization that organizes academic events.

Peer Review

All original research articles and methodological notes undergo a strict double-blind peer review by specialists in the relevant linguistic and theological fields. Editorial decisions are made independently by the journal’s editors and reviewers; use of the platform never guarantees acceptance, and platform-prepared papers are reviewed to exactly the same standard as any other submission. See the full Peer Review Process.

Open Access Policy

In alignment with our mission, the journal operates on a fully Open Access model with immediate access to all published content:

  • The full text of every article is freely available to researchers, students and the public, without paywalls or embargo periods.
  • Readers may download, share and cite articles, provided proper attribution is given to the author(s) and the journal.
  • There are no fees for authors or for readers.
  • Articles are licensed under Creative Commons; the license that applies is stated on each article.

Submission Guidelines in Brief

  • How to submit: through the journal’s online submission system, or by preparing the paper from your notes in the Divine Message Research platform and submitting it from there.
  • Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) is preferred.
  • Language: manuscripts are written in English; passages from primary sources are given in the original language where the argument depends on the wording, with a translation.
  • Originality: only original, unpublished work that is not under review elsewhere will be considered.
  • Fees and deadlines: there is no submission fee or article processing charge, and no submission deadline; articles are published as soon as they are ready.

Please read the complete Author Guidelines before submitting.
